When a discovery is made, is as important as what is being discovered. My introduction to The Ladybug Transistor occurred in 2001 at a time when my listening habits were, well, habitual. The bright, lively pop of their sound was the beginning of a new era of listening for me as a music consumer, showing me point blank that new music, great music, was still being produced, and in a dizzying assortment of sounds and style.

A few years later, when their self-titled release came out, it confirmed to me, that the initial discovery of this band, wasn’t just a timely accident, but the beginning of a long relationship I would have with their music. What I fell in love with remained, still sweet yet somehow forlorn. The depth of their sound still right there at the surface to be discovered.
