It can be easy to think what you got is not enough. Most will overcompensate for any perceived shortcoming by pouring it all in all at once. When the entirety of ingredients are available to you, the result can be a muddled mess. In the capable hands of brilliant and confident minds, simplicity can be spun into stunning results. That is not to say this is a simple record. But it is stunning.

A collaboration from James Mercer of the Shins and the indefatigable Brian Burton, aka Danger Mouse. Their self titled debut perfectly blends the pop sensibility and the deep diving production chops of its creators. This is at once a coalescence of those sensibilities and a sound that runs the gamut, creating a collection of songs that seem to be made for any number of desires. There are times this music asks to be alone with you, ideally with the intimacy of headphones. And there are moments you want to be en masse, sharing the knowing smile of what you are being treated to. Wherever you land, get used to nodding along in satisfaction.
